Lift Away Skin Damage

What is a Spectra Hollywood Peel?

The Hollywood Peel is a unique treatment that combines our most gentle 1064 Q-Switched Nd: YAG Spectra Laser with the application of a patented carbon-based lotion to improve skin texture and address a broad spectrum of common skin concerns. When the carbon lotion is applied prior to the laser treatment, it creates bonds with the top layer of skin cells, helping the laser lift them away. This process promotes cellular turnover and collagen production while deeply cleansing congested pores for a more refined complexion

Safe & Amazingly Versatile

What are the benefits of a Spectra Hollywood Peel?

A Spectra Hollywood Peel is a gentle laser resurfacing treatment that is ideal for addressing melasma, as well as a wide range of other skin concerns. Achieve dramatic beauty results with our SPECTRA™ Hollywood Peel by addressing:

  • Melasma
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Texture and tone
  • Acne
  • Acne scars
  • Dry skin
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Vascular lesions

Spectra’s carbon laser peel is an excellent choice for treating melasma patches, a common skin condition that affects more women than men. A skin condition, melasma appears as widely spread hyperpigmentation across areas like the cheeks, forehead, the bridge of the nose, and over the upper lip. Pregnant women may develop melasma, or the “mask of pregnancy,” often during their second or third trimester. Developing melasma can be a result of taking birth control pills. Sun exposure can also cause or worsen melasma, which is why sun protection is also recommended in addition to laser treatments. Treating melasma targets both superficial skin cells and the deeper layers of the dermis.

A Hollywood Peel is also highly effective at targeting the root causes of acne and tightening enlarged pores due to its deeply exfoliating properties.

“Prior to services I received at Kucumber, my face was covered in pigment damage and scarring that was increasingly worsening and very noticeable. Now, I get compliments on my skin, and people ask all the time how I care for it.” — Alexis

The Science of Luminous Skin

Your Spectra Hollywood Peel Procedure

In the first step of your treatment, a carbon-based lotion will be applied to prepare your skin for the procedure. The lotion produces a black mask that absorbs the surface of your stratum corneum — the top layer of the epidermis. The mask contributes to both thermal and mechanical exfoliation, varying at different stages of your treatment plan.

Your Kucumber specialist will apply the lotion 15 minutes prior to the laser treatment. Once the laser begins pulsing, there will be some slight snapping sounds; you may also feel a mild warmth or tingling sensation. Your aesthetic specialist will make several passes over your skin with the handpiece. Each pass will add to the improvement of your skin’s tone, texture, and coloration.

No Downtime Needed

Spectra Hollywood Peel Recovery and Aftercare

After your Spectra carbon laser peel, your skin may appear slightly red or feel tingly. You will not need any downtime, but it’s a good idea to schedule your peel at least a week in advance of any important events. In the early days following a peel, it’s extra important to practice good sun protection. Avoid direct sunlight, and if you must go out in the sun, use sun protection such as an umbrella, wide-brimmed hat, and broad-spectrum sunscreen. Be sure to keep your skin hydrated with gentle skincare products.

Dazzling Results

Spectra Hollywood Peel Results

After a Spectra Hollywood Peel, your complexion goes to work, sloughing off dull surface cells and generating fresh, healthy cells in their place. At the same time, collagen production is boosted in the skin’s dermal layer, improving elasticity for a smoother, more youthful skin texture. You will likely see noticeable changes in your complexion within two to four weeks, with continued improvements over the next couple of months due to ongoing collagen production. Many people benefit from a series of four to six treatments spaced several weeks apart. Your Kucumber skin specialist will be able to recommend the best treatment regimen for your individual needs and preferences.

Spectra Hollywood Peel Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Unlike some other treatments, the Spectra Hollywood Peel is safe for a wide range of skin types, including darker skin tones. It is also highly effective for most common skin concerns, from oily and acne-prone to dry and aging skin.

The Spectra Hollywood Peel can be used for facial rejuvenation as well as on areas like the neck, chest, decolletage, and hands.

Laser peels use focused laser energy to resurface the skin, targeting specific areas for treatment. A chemical peel involves the application of a chemical solution to the skin to exfoliate and improve its texture. While both procedures aim to rejuvenate the skin and address various concerns such as wrinkles, scars, and melasma caused by pregnancy or oral contraceptives, laser peels are typically more precise and can target deeper skin layers, while chemical peels vary in intensity and may require multiple sessions for the desired results.

Melasma is a common skin disorder marked by hyperpigmentation on the face in certain areas like the bridge of the nose, cheeks, forehead, chin, and above the upper lip. Typically, melasma appears as brown, blue-gray, or tan freckle-like spots, and when these appear, a dermatologist will commonly diagnose melasma. Melasma is sometimes called the "mask of pregnancy" because this particular type of epidermal pigment can be caused by elevated levels of hormones in pregnant women. Other common causes are birth control, antiseizure medications, phototoxic drugs, and possibly thyroid disease. Sun exposure, particularly in the summer months, can make melasma worse.
